Acer introduces Liquid Jade S with 64-bit MediaTek octa-core processor

Days after releasing an upgraded version of Liquid Jade in the Indian market, Acer has unveiled the new Jade S in Taiwan. While most of the specifications of Jade S are similar to the Jade-variant launched in India, the phone packs a brand-new processor in the form of octa-core 1.5 GHz MediaTek MT6752M.

Other specifications of the Liquid Jade S include 2300 mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and microSD card slot. In addition, the phone sports a 5-inch HD display and comes with dual-SIM support, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front shooter.

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4, however there is no official word on the Android 5.0 update roll-out.

Pricing and availability

According to Acer, Liquid Jade S will go on sale in Taiwan on December 18 for NT$6990 ($225) via Chunghwa Telecom. There is no word on the release of the phone in other markets at this point

Acer hopes that Liquid Jade S will help join the top five smartphone makers in the country. It is currently on the 15th spot, so it will need a lot of effort. The company is aiming for 100,000 smartphones shipments this year in Taiwan, up from 60,000 unit shipments last year.

Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro with built-in projector reaches India

After launching the Yoga Tablet 2 8-inch and 10-inch models in India, Lenovo has now unveiled the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro in the country. This 13.3-inch tablet will be available at Flipkart.com beginning midnight tonight for INR 49,490.

The tablet runs on Android 4.4 and is powered by Intel Atom Z3745 quad-core processor. In addition, Yoga Tablet 2 Pro features 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, 8MP rear camera and 1.6MP front shooter. Lenovo has also included a pico-projector in the tablet, which is capable of projecting a 50-inch output.

As more and more people are using tablets to explore the digital world, users are demanding bigger screens for a powerful visual experience. Like other Yoga tablets, Tablet 2 Pro also packs the integrated kick-stand, which can be used in various modes for extra productivity.

Google launches Nexus 6 and Chromecast in India

Google on Tuesday announced the launch of its new Nexus 6 and Chromecast devices in the Indian market at a press event in New Delhi. Both Nexus 6 and Chromecast will go on sale at midnight tonight as a part of Google’s Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF).

Talking about the Nexus 6 first, which had gone on pre-order at Flipkart late last month, the phone will be available at Flipkart as well as Google Play. It carries a price-tag of INR 43,999 for the 32GB version and INR 48,999 for the 64GB version.

Google Nexus 6 has been manufactured by Motorola Mobility and runs on Android 5.0. The phone features a 5.96-inch Quad-HD display, 3220 mAh battery, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 13MP rear camera.

Swipe Telecom releases Slate Pro tablet for INR 10,499

Swipe Telecom has announced the launch of its new Slate Pro tablet in the Indian market. The tablet is being released in partnership with e-retailer Snapdeal, which will be exclusively offering the device in the country.

Swipe Slate Pro carries a price-tag of INR 10,499 and can now be grabbed from the e-retailer in Silver colour option.

Offline support now rolling out to YouTube for Android in India

Google is finally making good on its promise to bring offline support to YouTube for Android in India. Like most of Google features, it is also rolling out in phases and some users have started getting notifications that YouTube videos can now be saved for offline viewing in the app. Others are expected to get it in the coming days.

The company had originally revealed that it is bringing the offline support to YouTube in September this year at the Android One launch event and it was supposed to go live within a few weeks. But, it seems to have taken a whole lot more time.

The offline support is quite easy to use and all you have to do is tap the download icon next to video title and it downloads the video to your phone in the selected video quality. Considering the copyright issues and other content restrictions, these downloaded videos can only be seen in the YouTube app under the Offline section.
